The purpose of the Application Support Analyst – Linux is to provide 3rd tier Linux-specific technical support for business critical applications at Questrade. Our applications are mission critical and the Application Support Analyst – Linux will support and troubleshoot these operations to minimize downtime and ensure success.

What’s it like working as an Application Support Analyst – Linux  at Questrade?

As the Application Support Analyst – Linux, you will provide 3rd tier technical production support for mission critical brokerage applications and databases. You will investigate and troubleshoot incidents in a timely manner, support database issues and resolutions, and be involved in the configuration and installation of production applications. You will work with development, QA, and infrastructure teams to understand applications and resolve incidents.

You will conduct timely investigation and troubleshooting of production technical incidents and conduct proactive monitoring of production systems. You will provide shift support to applications during mission critical times and monitor batch processes in addition to providing timely updates to Operations as to resolution processes and time required to resolve an incident once available. You will work with vendors and multiple business groups to understand the issues related to production incidents and quickly and properly resolve them. You will adhere to the consistent incident resolution process and work on its improvement and support and keep up to date issue resolutions database. You understand the importance of team work and will work closely with QA, Development, DBA and System and Network Admin teams to facilitate the change management process.

You have good problem investigating, analyzing and solving skills. In terms of systems knowledge, Linux administrating and troubleshooting skills in addition to knowledge of Nagios Enterprise and working knowledge of at least one of Linux shell scripting languages is considered an asset. You have an understanding of  Public Cloud infrastructure model as well as DevOps tools and methodologies. You are also competent in following specific guidelines, criteria and protocols. You have a good understanding of SQL Databases (preferably Sybase, but can also be MySQL or MS SQL server) as well asnetworks, routers, and TCP/IP and UDP protocols. You manage your time well in structured environments all to better enable team work. You remain focused and do not lose sight of the smaller details, even under pressure and have the ability to take ownership of tasks to drive them through to completion. You play well with others and understand the importance of strong communication with other technical teams as well as the significance of being flexible to take on various responsibilities. As an added bonus, you are familiar with SVN voice control, Docker and PaaS. You are curious by nature and demonstrate a commitment to learning Questrade’s business for your own ongoing professional development. Our production support team is dedicated to ensure that all mission critical applications are up and running during trading hours. In order to maintain close to 24 hour coverage, rotating shift work is required.
