Locations: Main office location is in Markham, ON but employment location will be around Ontario and Alberta.

Our team in ON and AB is in need of Civil/Rigger Technicians that would like to become part of CNI’s growing team. Work Location:  As the position requires on-site work, workers are required to travel in different locations within the provinces of Alberta and Ontario depending on where the job site/project is.

Salary: $27.00 to $32.00 / hour (to be negotiated) – Markham, ON

$31.00 to $32.00 / hour (to be negotiated) – Edmonton, AB


Minimum salary per hour shall be determined based on work location.  Workers home-based in Ontario that will be required to work in Alberta from time to time shall be paid the minimum wage in Alberta.  Workers home-based in Alberta that will be required to work in Ontario shall maintain his/her salary.  There will be no diminution of salaries and benefits as a result of having to work in different locations.


Work Hours:  32 to 40 hours / week


Vacancies: The company needs 6 Riggers – Telecommunication. : 3 workers for Markham, ON and 3 for Edmonton, AB.  Qualified workers will be home-based in either AB or ON but might be required to work in the other province which is not its home-base from time to time. In the event that the worker will be required to work outside of the home province, the company shall provide for travel, accommodation, and meal allowance (per diem) and shall provide vehicle use when performing job related work.

Education: Other trades certificate or diploma or equivalent experience

Completion of secondary school and related trade/specialized course certificate is required combined with at least one year of work experience in the trade.  Or completion of a four-year telecommunications line and cable apprenticeship program or related education.

Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years


Transportation/Travel Information: Vehicle supplied by employer when performing job related work, Travel expenses paid by employer, Willing to travel for extended periods


Job Description: The role of the Rigger – Telecommunication is to perform all aspect of tower and rooftop installations and maintenance as well as all antenna system installation and maintenance.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Repetitive tasks, Handling heavy loads (able to lift 75 lbs of materials to chest height), Physically demanding, Manual dexterity, Attention to detail, Ability to distinguish between colours, Combination of sitting, standing, walking, Bending, crouching, kneeling

Work Site Environment: Work Outdoors all year round, At heights (able to work safely at heights and high structures)

Additional Skills: Complete and maintain test and service reports, Climb and work aloft on poles, ladders or other support structures


Equipment and Machinery Experience: Fibre optics, Coaxial line, Copper


Major Work Area: Installation, Maintenance, Repair, Service


Specific Skills: Install and maintain aerial and underground telephone equipment, Test equipment to locate transmission faults, Install trunking systems, circuits and equipment, Determine nature, cause and location of trouble, Inspect and test trunking systems, Splice, join and connect wires, Repair or replace defective telephone equipment, Good mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of power and hand tools.
